Villagers – “A Trick Of The Light”

“A Trick Of The Light” is the lead single from Villagers fourth album “The Art of Pretending To Swim” which is due for release on Domino Records on 21st September.

Moving away from the more sparse sound that was prominent throughout previous album, “Darling Arithmetic”, this single sees Villagers return to the fuller production of the first two albums.

The song starts out with a smooth funky bassline before introducing the strings and more folky sound we have come to associate with Villagers later into the track.

In a press release, Conor O’Brien talks about the collaboration with Bob Gallagher on the video for the single.

“Myself and Bob got together and discussed the song thematically and came to the conclusion that there was no other option but to make a short film in which we follow a dishevelled shamanistic protagonist who mysteriously triggers an altered state of consciousness in everyone he meets, or at least believes that he does. We also wanted lots of dancing and to inspire a general feeling of “what the hell did I just watch?” in the viewer.”

Villagers head out on a UK Tour later this year to support the album and here’s where you can catch them:
