Scottish post-punk band The Twilight Sad have dropped their first new track since their stunning album “Nobody Wants To Be Here & Nobody Wants To Leave” back in 2014.
“I/m Not Here [Missing Face]” sees the band fresh and reinvigorated since the departure of drummer Mark Devine as Andy Macfarlane said in a press release “I’m really excited to start playing again. I’ve got the drive and I want us to get back out there and do it from a new perspective. We all enjoy playing, we need to rehearse these songs with a new drummer… but it’s all such uncharted territory, l think that’s why it’s exciting to me. I can’t tell exactly what’s going to happen. I like that chaotic side of it.”
The chorus may be their most instantly accessible yet but lead singer James Graham tells us in a press release that the song is “about my ongoing battle with not liking myself, trying to be a good person but constantly feeling like I’m failing myself and everyone I care about.” which thematically sits with the rest of their discography nicely.
The track is the first since The Twilight Sad signed to Mogwai’s Rock Action Records and comes on the back of the band supporting The Cure on a multitude of dates, most recently at Robert Smith’s curated Meltdown festival and British Summer Time Festival at Hyde Park last weekend.
