Rosie Carney – “Orchid”

Posted On By Craig

“Orchid” is the latest track to be released by Irish singer-songwriter Rosie Carney. The track will feature on her upcoming album “Bare” which is due to be released January 25th via Akira Records.

At just 16 years old Carney was signed to major label Polydor which saw her being teamed up with a host of co-writers such as Charlie Fink (Noah and The Whale), Turin Brakes and Benjamin Francis Leftwich, amongst others, however the singer was tackling her own personal demons and mental health issues at the time and combined with the pressures of being in such an industry she was shortly dropped from the label. This didn’t stop her and she’s carried on independently to create this album which allowed her to retain creative freedom and integrity.

“Orchid” is a beautiful, dreamy folk ballad that starts of minimilistic with just Carney’s hazy vocals and a lone guitar before a full string section helps to build the track to it’s grand, cinematic finish.

Discussing the track Carney said “As the song developed, I saw the opportunity to really expand beyond my usual production and it’s now the most layered song on the album, with strings, drums, tremolo guitar etc. I could just hear the strings while working on the demo and when it came time to actually track them, we used Radiohead’s ‘Nude’ and some of Lana Del Rey’s dreamier tracks as a reference—two artists that are huge influences on me.”
