Hull punk band LIFE have dropped “Hollow Thing” the second track to be taken from their anticipated second album “A Picture Of Good Health”. The album is due out on 20th September on the band’s own label Afghan Moon whilst also partnering with [PIAS]
“Hollow Thing” is somewhat of a departure for LIFE lyrically as their debut album “Popular Music” focused on the bigger picture of society and veered more to the political. “Hollow Thing” is more direct and personal, whilst the tongue-in-cheek lyrics continue, frontman Mez Green has said that “Hollow Thing is about tackling isolation and fixing yourself. It’s about letting go of something in your life, something that’s passed.”
However, whilst they might be looking inwards lyrically the sound continues to grow and be ready for the larger venues they seemed destined to fill in the not-so-distant future. “A Picture Of Good Health” has been produced by Luke Smith (Foals) and mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (Parquet Courts). “Hollow Thing” is dominated by a chugging guitar line with Lydia’s bass underpinning the whole 2 minutes 56 seconds whilst Stew frantically drums persisting throughout. It’s an epic track that’s going to sound huge live.
Speaking about “A Picture Of Good Health” Mez states that it “is not a collage of work but rather a snapshot of time; our time and the time of those around us. It’s political, but in a personal way. It’s a body of work that explores and examines the band’s inner-selves through a precise period; a period that has brought pain, loneliness, blood, guts, single parenthood, depression and the need for survival and love. It is the sense and need for belonging that is the resounding end note!”
