Birmingham dream-pop band JAWS have released the latest taste of their upcoming album “The Ceiling” in the form of new single “FEAR”.
“FEAR” is a slow building, brooding track which sees the band explore new territory with a more pulsating ambient synth sound tacking prominence in the 5 minute plus single. Combined with the two preceding tracks, “Do You Remember” and “Driving At Night”, it looks like “The Ceiling” is set to be the band’s most ambitious and interesting project to date.
JAWS shared a few thoughts about both the album and “FEAR” as
Connor Schofield (Guitarist and Frontman) has said:
“Lyrically “The Ceiling” is generally about feeling a bit lost, I think as you grow up everything feels like its moving along a lot quicker; friends, relationships, life can all seem to move at 100 mph. Sometimes we forget that its OK to stand still for a bit sometimes and actually breathe. A lot of these songs are about dealing with that. Musically I think we’ve surprised even ourselves with it, we’ve gone down paths we haven’t taken before and ended up with something we’re really very excited about.
“FEAR” really pushed us out of our comfort zone in the best way possible. It was sort of the wake up call that we could take this record in any direction we want and still be confident with it. I think it might be my favourite song that we’ve ever put together, not only musically but for how it opened the door to write the rest of the record. The song is about fight or flight, trying to live via love rather than fear.”
In support of the “The Ceiling”, which is due out April 5th, the band will be heading out on a UK tour and you can catch them at one of the following dates:
23/04 – Glasgow – King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut
