Whilst Foxing’s last single, Slapstick, was a slight departure in sound from their previous album Dealer, their new single “Nearer My God” fully embraces the different style and sees their sound expand into bigger, more anthemic indie rock.
As well as exploring a new sound with the album itself, the band have gone all-out with “Nearer My God” and created five versions of the track, all in a different language, including English, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese.
In a press release Foxing stated that: “The language idea started as a “wouldn’t it be cool” thing that just kept going. The whole point was to put in a fraction of the effort that most international artists put it. The goal was to show respect and appreciation. Each step was difficult because we wanted to get it as right as possible and my only knowledge outside of English is some high school French. Each of the four foreign languages had its own set of difficulties but, after working with 70ish translators and friends for a few months, we’ve got one song in five tongues.”

As for the song itself, according to an interview with Stereogum last month, it was actually on the chopping block as the band was nearing the end of recording with producer Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie, The Decemberists). He told Stereogum “I kept zeroing in on it as something that had a lot of emotional weight and felt really relatable to me
The band have also released a Podcast series called Nearer My Pod. Hosted by Dan Ozzi (Noisey), Nearer My Pod is an in-depth look at the making of the new Foxing album Nearer My God, featuring insight from band members Conor Murphy, Eric Hudson and album producer Chris Walla.
Foxing will be in the UK + Ireland co-headlining with Pianos Become The Teeth and support from Kamikaze Girls throughout this August including a set at Bristol’s Arctangent Festival.
