ALBUM OF THE WEEK: ORLANDO WEEKS – ‘A QUICKENING’

Orlando Weeks

The former lead singer of The Maccabees quietly drops his solo debut LP this week. It’s a very difficult time for alternative acts to release new music. Their chart positions are buoyed by independent record stores and in-store performances and gigs. Orlando will struggle to reach the commercial heights of his former band who went straight to Number 1 with their final album ‘Marks To Prove It‘.

‘A Quickening’ is a slow-burning delicate record, give it a few listens and it will reveal itself to be a thing of intense beauty. The liner notes in the record include a dedication to staff at St. Thomas’ Hospital and the video for ‘Blood Sugar‘, which you can watch below, is also dedicated to NHS workers.
