The Mercury Music Prize is arguably the most prestigious award in the UK music calendar. Every year, a panel of experts picks the 12 best albums from the UK and Ireland of the past 12 months before deciding on a winner to take home the prize. Today, this year’s nominations have been confirmed:
Barry Can’t Swim – When Will We Land?
Berwyn – Who Am I
Beth Gibbons – Lives Outgrown
Cat Burns – Early Twenties
Charli xcx – Brat
CMAT – Crazymad, for Me
Corinne Bailey Rae – Black Rainbows
corto.alto – Bad With Names
English Teacher – This Could Be Texas
Ghetts – On Purpose, With Purpose
Nia Archives – Silence Is Loud
The Last Dinner Party – Prelude to Ecstasy
Most of the nominees are as expected with Blur, Sampha and Yard Act the most notable omissions. We would argue that Casisdead or NewDad would have been worthy additions too.
