ALBUM OF THE WEEK: MYSTERY JETS – ‘A BILLION HEARTBEATS’

Mystery Jets

The release of the Mystery Jets’ sixth album has not been easy. Originally scheduled for release last year, they were forced to delay it when frontman Blaine Harrison was taken ill. Mystery Jets have never enjoyed the kind of commercial success that their excellent records have deserved. The first cuts from this album enjoyed decent exposure on Radio 1 and they had a bunch of in-store gigs and signings lined up to push this one.

Unfortunately, the Coronavirus pandemic has delayed the physical release of the album further, the record shop shows are cancelled and the tour is postponed yet again. They are, however, releasing the album digitally so that fans can enjoy it while they wait for the vinyl.

There’s no sign of the band trading on former glories or repeating themselves. It’s a timely LP with some of their strongest songwriting so far. You can watch the video for ‘Screwdriver’ below before diving into the album.
