Legendary DJ and Actor Craig Charles is heading back to Gloucester Guildhall and bringing his legendary Funk & Soul club Night with him.
Originating in 2002, Craig Charles was invited to DJ on BBC Radio 6. Speaking of the booking, Charles stated “When BBC 6Music asked me to do a radio show I only had one condition, it has to be a funk & soul show otherwise I wasn’t interested”. And that is how “The Craig Charles Funk & Soul show” was born.
The show airs every Saturday night from 6PM where Charles drops an assortment of classic gems and emerging artists and the show has become one of the most popular shows on the channel, helping to promote new artists directly to listeners. Charles has commented that “Since its inception I have been interested in all varieties of soul and funk music, without imposing any barriers and I am just as enthusiastic about fresh new talent as I am about the classic artists from the golden age of the 60s and 70s”.
The show regularly features guest appearances with slots from Gil-Scott Heron, James Brown, Roy Ayers, Cymande, Marlena Shaw, Paul Weller, Primal Scream, Terry Callier, Candi Staton, Marva Whitney.
Not content with taking over the radio waves, Craig Charles has been taking the show out on the road for regular club nights and festival appearances, including Glastonbury at Arcadia and the Shangri-La area.
The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club live is due to hit Gloucester Guildhall on the 30th August 2019 and you can grab tickets here.
Tickets are priced from £17.00 (plus. booking fee)
